Welcome to 31 Square
Saturna Eats !

31 Square - Saturna Eats is Saturna Island's food network – a community information exchange that inspires events, projects and promotions about local and regional food.

Taking its cue from the 100-Mile Diet www.100milediet.org, in 2007 a group of enthusiastic gardeners, and hunters and gatherers of local fresh foods, established a food network on Saturna Island.

This Southern Gulf island of 31 square kilometres is home to several renowned chefs and restaurants, a well established bakery, a vineyard and a community that sponsors several dozen community food events a year. Enthusiasm for eating local foods, eating well and in good company spurred the creation of 31 Square - Saturna Eats.

Location of Saturna IslandThe food network exists to share food-gardening experiences and resources, preserve extra bounty, support communal eating events and regional producers. An evolving project list includes organizing summer and winter garden tours, organizing presentations, surveying island fruit and produce growers, and bulk buying of organic produce. The network supports the Slow Food movement’s philosophy of valuing and sustaining community through commitment to local and heritage products, and of conviviality through sharing food at table.

Notices of meetings will be posted on this site and Saturna Island bulletin boards.
