Breezy Bay Garden Plots
Rates: 75 cents per square foot; minimum plot size 135 square feet What comes with your plot – 1. Full irrigation system, all you provide are hoses and sprinklers. 2. Fully tilled ready to go plot. 3. Certified Organic, fertile garden soil. 4. Sunshine at the whim of nature and the garden gods. Start up is early May and is weather dependent. A user’s agreement must be signed and ALL soil amendments, seeds etc, must be approved by Flora House. We are a certified organic farm and everything used must meet Canadian Organic Standards. Breezy Bay is offering summer garden space to the Saturna Community.
Users' Agreement for Gardening at Breezy Bay
1. As a plot holder, you are responsible for the maintenance and weeding of your plot and surrounding pathways. DO NOT make your neighbors come after you for weed seeds blowing into their plot!
2. Herbicides (weed Killers), insecticides, chemical fertilizers, animal poisons and NONORGANIC materials (including treated wood) ARE NOT ALLOWED in the garden.
3. Please bring your own tools, sprinklers and hoses. Please respect other peoples tools etc and ask before borrowing. You can leave your tools in the garden area.
4. Please plant tall crops where they will not shade neighboring plots.
5. Please do not bring your pets to the farm.
6. The garden area is open from 8am to dusk.
7. Family members are welcome, please supervise young children so they do not disturb neighboring plots.
8. Mulching to reduce water evaporation is recommended for water conservation.
9. Please dispose of weeds in the designated compost areas ONLY. Do not bring any food waste from outside the garden for composting to ensure certified organic standards.
10. The planting of invasive species or use of GMO seeds/crops is NOT permitted.
11. At the End of the growing season all crops, stakes, tools etc must be removed. The garden is tilled and cover cropped by the end of September.
12. PLEASE REMEMBER TO CLOSE ALL GATES ON THE FARM, EVEN IF IT IS OPEN WHEN YOU GET TO IT. We have livestock who can escape OR munch all your lovely produce.
13. ALL SEEDS, SOIL AMENDMENTS, ADDITIVES, FERTILISERS IE; ANYTHING BROUGHT INTO THE GARDEN AREA MUST COMPLY WITH CERTIFIED ORGANIC STANDARDS. SEE FLORA HOUSE FOR YES AND NO ON WHAT YOU WANT TO USE. You don’t need to read the standards book, just consult with Flora.
14. Please park in the designated parking area near the main gate. If you have something heavy to bring or take away you can drive up to the garden area and then park afterward.
15. Plot holders must comply with the above guidelines. If you find you must abandon your plot please notify Flora House IMMEDIATELY.
